The 212º Program began in the Spring of 2010, spearheaded by Ron Colburn, Director of Radiology. As a customer service initiative, the program goes hand in hand with the practice of Faithful, Loving Care® which is a concept of everyone caring every day, a concept open to all who are compassionate and willing to go the extra distance for our patients and their families.
Simply put, the 212º Program is intended to engage the staff in the “extra degree” philosophy described in the book, 212º the extra degree by Sam Parker and Mac Anderson. Note the 212º slogan below.
"At 211 degrees, water is hot
At 212 degrees, it boils
And, with boiling water comes steam
And, steam can power a Locomotive"
The theory behind the slogan is: adding one degree of effort to any task or activity would realize greater rewards.…achieve a more satisfactory result. One quote from the book sums up the message of the 212º book and program.
“212º is not only a message of Action, it's a message of persistent and additional Action -- the continual application of heat (effort) to whatever task or activity you undertake in order to achieve not only the primary objective you seek, but to reap the exponential rewards that are possible by applying one extra degree of effort.”
At St. Luke’s, we understand that patients and families expect and deserve outstanding clinical care, and we are committed to providing that extra degree to deliver exceptional care with respect, compassion, and sensitivity.
