Our Liver Clinical Services are offered from our world renowned St. Luke’s Center for Liver Disease, where we provide specialized services in the treatment of liver disease. Areas of expertise include diagnosis and management of viral hepatitis, the evaluation of abnormal liver tests, the treatment of alcoholic and metabolic liver disease, the management of patients with cirrhosis and portal hypertension, large volume paracentesis, liver transplantation and the treatment of liver tumors (malignant and benign).

What is St. Luke’s Center for Liver Disease?
The Center for Liver Disease, locatedin the heart of Houston’s world-renowned Texas Medical Center, is dedicated exclusively to treating patients with all forms of liver disease-ranging from screening for abnormal liver function to medical management of disease and liver transplantation. Physicians at the Institute are nationally and internationally recognized for their expertise in liver care. Collectively, they have more than 25 years experience in treating all types of liver disease and have performed more than 1,500 liver transplant procedures. All physicians are board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology or surgery. A multidisciplinary team of clinicians provides unsurpassed care, in a caring environment, for patients with liver conditions. The Center for Liver Disease’s specialized staff and state-of-the-art facilities ensure that patients receive the most accurate diagnosis, the most up-to-date care and the most effective treatments anywhere-all backed by St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital’s reputation for world-class care, compassion and confidentiality.

What is the relationship between the Center for Liver Disease and my primary care physician?
St. Luke’s Center for Liver Disease is a specialty clinic with expertise in liver disease. Our primary focus is therefore to deliver the highest quality of care to our patients as it relates only to your liver condition. To maximize our expertise and enhance your care, the Center for Liver Disease requires all patients have a primary care physician. This partnership will ensure you receive specialized care of your liver disease and continued care for all your other health concerns and needs. If you do not have a primary care physician, you can call the St. Luke’s referral line at 832-355-DOCS (3627).

Good communications between the Center for Liver Disease and your referring physician is central to providing excellent care. We will make every effort to provide your referring physician with the information he/she needs to implement any recommendations made at the time of your Clinic visit.
