In 2008, the NeuroScience Center was designated a Stroke Center of Excellence according to a new survey sponsored by Chicago-based think tank NeuStrategy. The survey assesses the characteristics and organization of hospital services, staff and facilities for stroke patient care. Hospitals complying with the American Stroke Association’s recommendations for stroke care rank high in the survey and qualify for NeuStrategy’s Stroke COE designation.

In its annual survey of "America's Best Hospitals," U.S. News & World Report has ranked St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital among the top healthcare institutions in the nation in 8 major areas of care out of 16 which included a ranking of 27th among the nation's elite hospitals in Neurology and Neurosurgery.
A Joint Commission certified Primary Stroke Center three consecutive times since 2005. This is a certification of distinction that recognizes primary stroke centers that make exceptional efforts to foster better outcomes for stroke care and signifies that St. Luke’s stroke services have the critical elements to achieve long-term success in improving outcomes. Primary Stroke Center designation is the best signal to the community that the quality care we provide is effectively managed to meet the unique and specialized needs of stroke patients.
The Joint Commission's Primary Stroke Center Certification program was developed in collaboration with the American Stroke Association. It is based on the Brain Attack Coalition's "Recommendations for the Establishment of Primary Stroke Centers." St. Luke’s is one of only fourteen centers in Texas to have received both Primary Stroke Center certification and the Gold Seal of Approval by the Joint Commission.
