The specialty of ENT (ear, nose and throat) or otolaryngology is focused on disorders/conditions that range from extremely minor (such as a sore throat) to very complex (such as cancer). The otolaryngologists - ENT physicians - at St. Luke's are leaders in diagnosing, managing and treating conditions and diseases of the ear, nose and throat.
Patients at St. Luke's benefit from skull base endoscopic equipment for performing minimally invasive surgery. The endoscopic approach allows surgeons to remove tumors that otherwise would require a large cranial opening and brain retraction or disfiguring facial scars. Instead an endoscope is advanced through a natural opening such as the nasal cavity.
St. Luke's also boasts an innovative electromagnetic image-guided Fusion™ ENT Navigation System for patients undergoing endoscopic sinus procedures. Similar to a global positioning system, the equipment provides the surgeon with real-time images to help navigate in the sinuses for precise removal of diseased tissue while avoiding critical areas.
The patient's care will be provided by a highly qualified nursing staff. St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital was re-designated the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet status in 2009 due to our commitment to interdisciplinary practice, ongoing professional development, use of evidence-based practice in the delivery of nursing care and ongoing nursing research. We were the 37th hospital in the nation and first in Texas and the Southwest to receive the honor in 2001, and again in 2005. St. Luke's has joined the elite one percent of hospitals in the nation to achieve this status three times.
