OVERVIEW OF SERVICES
The Department of Research exists to fulfill the research commitment of St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital. Through research, St. Luke's is able to provide the latest treatments and contribute to future generations through the knowledge gained. The Department of Research promotes clinical research efforts dedicated to enhancing the quality of healthcare provided to our patients and community.

Each year, hundreds of patients are enrolled in clinical research trials for heart, liver, cancer, neurological, orthopaedic and other areas of disease. Many of the trials offer investigational new drugs and devices that are only available at select locations through clinical trials. Other trials may involve the latest in diagnostic and treatment options, such as stem cell therapy and new indications for FDA-approved medications.

In its annual survey of “America’s Best Hospitals,” U.S. News & World Report ranked St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital home of the Texas Heart® Institute, in the top ten nationally in Heart and Heart Surgery consecutively for 21 years. St. Luke’s was also ranked among the top 50 health care institutions in the following specialties:

  • Ear, Nose and Throat
  • Diabetes & Endocrine Disorders
  • Gastroenterology
  • Urology

St. Luke’s was the first hospital in Texas and the Southwest to earn Magnet designation (2001, 2005, 2009), the gold standard of nursing care and the highest  honor a healthcare organization can receive for nursing services.
