Center for Mothers and Babies

New mothers and their families can now enjoy the comforts of St. Luke's Center for Mothers and Babies, located on the 25th floor of St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital.  The new center offers 28 rooms (26 of them are private) that provide numerous amenities to ensure that mother, father and baby can spend their first days together in safety and comfort.

St. Luke's Center for Mothers and Babies has been designed with the most important people in mind: mothers and their newborns.  The rooms feel like hotel rooms but are located in the heart of St. Luke's, where our top-notch nursing staff is available 24-hours a day.  All of our nurses can provide individualized teaching on breastfeeding, bathing your baby, cord care, infant care, self-care and more.

Each of the new rooms includes:

  • All necessary medical equipment
  • Glider rocker for mother and baby to rock in
  • Full-length convertible sleeper-sofa for fathers to sit and sleep on
  • Bathroom
  • Hardwood floors
  • Penthouse views of the Texas Medical Center
  • Television, which features the "Newborn Channel" along with other programming

After they are born and leave the labor and delivery area, newborns will receive their initial assessment in the nursery. They are placed in warm, enclosed beds where they are closely observed. They receive their first bath, vitamin K treatment, preventive eye care, and umbilical cord care. The newborn nursery is located in the Center for Mothers and Babies and is close to every room on the floor.

To ensure the safety and privacy of new families, all visitors to the Center for Mothers and Babies must check in with the security officer who greets visitors as they exit the elevators.  Visitors must present a picture ID to the security personnel, who are present around the clock.

The first hours and days after a new baby is born are among the most important and joyful that a family can experience.  The new Center for Mothers and Babies will give you and your family the opportunity to stay together during this time.  And our staff will support your needs in getting to know your baby.
