Women's Health - Family Focused Care

St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, in cooperation with Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital, has earned a reputation for expertise in managing high-risk pregnancies as well as normal deliveries. Our Obstetrics service gives special attention to every new mother and her family- from first-time parents to experienced moms, from those welcoming multiple births to those with very significant complications or other conditions.

With more than 2,800 babies born at St. Luke's every year, our focus is on identifying high-risk deliveries early in the pregnancy to minimize complications, control the high costs of caring for newborns, and reduce the length of stay for both the mother and the baby.

St. Luke's enjoys the distinction of being one of only two hospitals in the Houston region recognized as a referral center for high-risk obstetric patients. More than 200 women with complicated pregnancies are cared for each year on the inpatient Antepartum unit, where St. Luke's specializes in maintaining a woman's pregnancy to its full term.

The Perinatal Care Center, a joint program of St. Luke's, Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital, brings together the renowned clinical care and research excellence of St. Luke's maternal fetal programs and Texas Children's neonatal and perinatal programs. We have a skilled, practiced staff of perinatologists who deal exclusively with maternal fetal medicine issues.

New mothers and their families can now enjoy the comforts of St. Luke's Center for Mothers and Babies, located on the 25th floor of St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital. The new center offers 28 rooms (26 of them are private) that provide numerous amenities to ensure that mother, father and baby can spend their first days together in safety and comfort.

As a Texas Ten Step Hospital, St. Luke's supports the health of future Texans by ensuring that the care we provide is sensitive to the needs of the breastfeeding family.

We also offer classes and other programs to help you through every stage of pregnancy and to prepare you for the challenge of parenthood. Our childbirth and parenting classes are taught by registered nurses with extensive experience in childbirth education.  Our instructors provide basic facts about the psychological and emotional changes of pregnancy and parenthood.
