The Cancer Center at St. Luke's Outpatient Infusion Center offers chemotherapy administration, intravenous infusions/medication administration, injections, peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) line, central line care and phlebotomy services for lab testing. We also provide education and blood product information to our patients.

The Infusion Center has a staff of chemotherapy certified registered nurses, all of whom boast years of experience.  Our chemotherapy nurses take special care to talk to and educate our patients about what they will experience during chemotherapy. Patient care assistants also provide support where needed and, like the nurses, deliver care to the whole patient – body, mind and spirit.

Other amenities include:

  • Free and convenient parking
  • Soft drinks, juice and coffee are available to our patients.  There are also many restaurants located nearby.
  • Each patient will have his/her own individual room with a recliner and television (some with VCRs and movies).  Patients will also find ample magazines and education materials.

What should I do before I arrive at the clinic?
It always best to eat before arriving at the clinic.  Be sure to bring snacks or food if you are having treatments that will last several hours.  The clinic offers soft drinks, juice and coffee.  There is also a large refrigerator and microwave available for your use.  We suggest that you bring a blanket and pillow from home to provide additional comfort.

What can I expect when I arrive?

You will first stop at the front desk in the entrance lobby.  Then continue to the Infusion Center area to check in with the receptionist. You will then be accompanied back into the unit for treatment.  A nurse will measure your vital signs and weight, explain how the procedure will work, and answer your questions.  After you are comfortable, your treatment will begin according to your physician’s orders.

Should I take my regular medications?

Be sure to check with your physician first, but you should probably continue with your regular medication, including any for pain control.  Make sure to bring your medication (or a list) with you so the nurse can enter the relevant information on your chart.

Can visitors or family members accompany me?
We encourage friends and family members to accompany you, especially on your first visit, to provide you with support or to ask any additional questions.  It’s very important to us that you feel comfortable about your treatment.  As a consideration to other patients, we ask that you not bring small children, especially if you will be here for a lengthy treatment.  Due to limited seating, please also limit visitors to one or two at a time.
